Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect at my first Phatty Nattie's class?

On your first day, you will enter the studio and be guided by your instructor as to what equipment you will need and receive an overview of what will be happening in class that day. The instructor will lead you through a fitness routine using music rhythms and elements to keep the class moving. Your goal: Keep moving! Throughout the class, all instructors will introduce modifications if needed for everyone to be successful.

What should I wear to a Phatty Nattie's class?

We always want you to be comfortable, thus wear whatever you feel best in and can move in. If that's spandex and a tank top, great. If it's baggy sweats and a loose T-shirt, great! It's all about you! A clean pair of tennis shoes will top it off.

What do I need to bring to a Phatty Nattie's class?

Water is No. 1! Clean, comfortable tennis shoes. (Please do not wear them to the studio.) A mat, if you have one, but no problem if you don't—we have communal mats to get you started.

What are the age ranges within your classes?

Our participants range from 14 to 74 years old.

What if I have bad knees, hips, shoulder, etc.?

We will teach you modifications to use throughout the class so that you are able to keep moving along with us, just in your own way! It's all about you and what you can do.

How much weight will I lose by taking a class?

Weight loss will depend on many factors such as how many days a week you are active, what you are eating, what type of class you're taking, your age, your gender, etc. But at Phatty Nattie's, weight loss is not our No. 1 goal. At Phatty Nattie's, we believe that weight loss is a bonus benefit to our group fitness classes, as we really focus on empowering one another, motivating one another and coaching more healthy lifestyle skills to think about every day. We want you to be your best you inside and out!

How many calories will I burn in a 1-hour Phatty Nattie's class?

Again, it depends on what class you take. In general you will burn between 300 and 800 calories per class. This is based on your weight, height, gender and age and the class itself.

Where are you located?

Phatty Nattie's is now located in the lower level of the Cancer Care and Research Center. Our entrance is on the Mill Street side of the Cancer Center. You will see a Phatty Nattie's banner and logos inside the windowed entrance.

I am very out of shape and don't think I will keep up.

One of the missions of Phatty Nattie's is to make sure that all individuals are successful throughout our classes. We will help you modify if needed, without leaving you out of the group. The biggest step you can take is just making an effort to get there. Your goal: Keep moving! We all have to start somewhere, and if you never start, where will you be?

Why is Pump Up always 3 days a week?

Pump Up is a resistance training class that shows its best results when individuals commit to it 3 days a week. Resistance training is lifting weights and building muscle mass while shaping a lean body. If it's done less often than 3 days a week, you will see results, but once you hit a plateau, it's tough to progress unless you get that 3rd day in. This is an amazing class for women and men!
